CAFOD Parish Volunteer David Bray writes about his attendance at the YOUTH FOR CHRIST (Bristol) Event at the Park campus Knowles Bristol.
Youth for Christ leader Jamella Asotigue enthusiastically shared with David when he visited the event, that the group had chosen to donate to CAFOD because ” we want to be champions for the poor”. She continued by outlining that YOUTH FOR CHRIST are Christ centric, and that they had supported CAFOD previously via activities at school and in the church’s they attend, and as a result know that CAFOD really helps the poor worldwide.
David outlines “There was much love and friendship between the youngsters who clearly had dignity and respect for each other and for their elders. They opened the afternoon with a prayer and followed it with the OUR FATHER.
To be honest it took me back just how aware of God’s presence they all seemed. Everyone of them joined in and they meant what they were saying. Christ lives in the hearts of these Filipino children”.
As part of the event, David gave a short talk on how CAFOD has been working in the Philippines since 1969, working through local NGOs and churches for human rights and the sustainability of those projects, as well as during emergencies. David also explained that if they put their donation in under the lent appeal it would be matched pound for pound by UK government making a real difference, through Match Funding.
