On Saturday 10 September, Corpus Christi Church in Weston-super-Mare held a Harvest Supper.  The theme this year was a Taste of Somerset.

Lynne Parsonage, the event organiser, prepared a wonderful meal made up of delicacies from the West Country’s finest county. This included a Somerset Ploughman’s, followed by Somerset apple tart generously laden with Somerset cream. This was, of course, washed down by Somerset cider or apple juice. To complete the festivities and give the event that authentic West Country feel, there was only one choice for the musical accompaniment: The Wurzels!

You can read more about CAFOD’s work overseas here.

Parishioners enjoyed a two-course supper of traditional Somerset cuisine, including some old fashioned Somerset cider.

Father Gabriel Leyden, who was standing in for Father Richard Dwyer while he is recuperating from his operation said grace to start the meal attended by a total of 42 people. We wish Fr Dwyer all the best in his recuperation.

In total, the supper raised £277.50. This sum was donated to CAFOD where it will be used to help development projects across the world.

Our thanks go out to Lynne for organising the event, as well as her assistants. Thank you also to Tony Cooksley, who took some lovely photos of the event.
