At School of Christ the King Primary, in Filwood Park, Bristol, we have a tradition of Lent fundraising. Every Friday during Lent staff organise a different activity and the money we raise is given to charity. This year we had a penny trail round the playground, a penalty shoot-out, a sponsored obstacle race, a sponsored silence, a cake sale, a name the Easter Bunny competition and an Easter egg raffle.
Celebration Assembly for CAFOD Lent Fast Day Fundraising – Clara Nickolls at our assembly to accept our CAFOD cheque
Our families are brilliant supporters of this fundraising drive and we always raise a lot of money. This year, the total was £2100, half of which went to a cancer charity and half to the CAFOD ‘Make a Splash’ campaign. Liz Baldwin from CAFOD came to assembly and told us all about how difficult it can be for people in some parts of the world to get access to clean water.
The fundraising linked very well with some of the work we have been doing, learning about the Corporal Works of Mercy as part of our Year of Mercy studies. We know the money we have raised will be used to ‘visit the sick’ and ‘give drink to the thirsty.’
The photo below shows Clara Nickols Education Volunteer from CAFOD, who attended our celebration assembly to accept our donation, together with Headteacher Matt Condon and pupils from Year 5.
